3 Marine-Inspired Measures For Men’s Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month—a time to raise awareness of preventable health problems and to encourage regular medical treatment to detect health problems early for men. Since its inception, Men’s Health Month has received overwhelming support through awareness activities and methods of education. You can help raise awareness by participating in Wear Blue Friday on June 17. Regular medical checkups are important for maintaining good health for men. When you aren’t at a checkup, you can apply these measures inspired by the Marine Corps to your life to stay healthy.

Eat Like You’re In The Mess Hall

Fortunately for civilians, you are not confined to a strict 15-minute window at the mess hall to eat your food, but you can still learn a thing or two about how to eat from boot camp. Eating a balanced meal with protein, vegetables, fruit, carbs and no sugars is a great start for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Clean Like You’re In Boot Camp

On an average morning, you won’t have to wake up to a drill instructor inspecting your hygiene, but it’s still a good idea to stay clean like you are in boot camp. Consistently showering benefits your health by lowering muscle tension, reducing sugar levels, helping blood circulation, improving immune system, treating depression, assisting reproductive health, removing toxins, reducing stress and helping lung function.

Strive To Score A 300 On The Physical Fitness Test

To pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Marines (age 17-26) are required to perform at least three pull ups, 50 crunches in two minutes and a three-mile run in 28 minutes for the minimum score—that’s a good place to start. By training in these three categories, you will improve your health by building stronger bones and muscles, maintaining healthy weight, and improving cardiovascular health, balance and posture. If reaching those requirements comes easy, try scoring a 300 on the PFT. To reach this achievement, you need to perform 20 pull ups, 100 crunches in less than two minutes and run three miles in 18 minutes or less.

Give Back To Veterans

Veterans inspired these great health tips for Men’s Health Month. To give back to veterans, you can donate your car to Vehicles For Veterans—a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that benefits disabled veterans. Donating your car gives disabled veterans a better life, while also giving benefits to yourself.  Receiving a great tax deduction and free towing are just two of the benefits. Donate your car during Men’s Health Month by calling 1-855-811-4838 or filling out an online car donation form.
