Courage, Support And Loyalty

Courage, Support And Loyalty

Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Day! President Ronald Reagan wanted to recognize the importance of military spouses. At the height of the Cold War, he made proclamation 5184, dated April 17, 1984, for May 23, 1984 to be recognized as Military Spouse Day. However, congress made Military Spouse Appreciation Day part of National Military Appreciation Month in 1999. Then the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Casper Weinberger, declared the Friday before Mother’s Day to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Each year the president recognizes this day with a formal speech and proclamation.

Why We Should Say Thank You

There are many ways we recognize and honor those who are in the military and have served for our country. Have you ever thought about what is going on behind the scenes? There is a husband or wife in the background keeping the family together and supporting their spouse with everything they have.

While those who are protecting our freedom are away, their spouses are getting the kids to all of their activities, keeping the house in order, and showing courage when they are worried about their loved one's safety every day. The struggles are still not over when the military spouse returns from deployment. They sometimes return with an injury or PTSD that has a wide range of symptoms.  Through all this the military spouse is by their side helping in any way they can.

How To Say Thank You

If you know someone who is a military spouse, there are many ways you are able to say thank you.

  • A simple thank you card can do a great deal to cheer up a military spouse who might feel under-appreciated.
  • If you feel a card is too small you can put a gift card to a restaurant or movie theater inside the card, for something a little extra.
  • There are many programs to send care packages overseas to soldiers; you can also send one to a military spouses here at home.
  • If you are the one in the military you can take your spouse out to dinner. Give them a day off and take care of the house chores and get the kids to all of their activities.

Give Back In A Big Way

If you have vehicle such as an ATV, RV, boat, jet-ski, car or truck you can donate it to Vehicles For Veterans. We are a car donation program benefiting veterans and their families. When soldiers return home, they sometimes need some extra help with medical bills and getting back up on their feet. Vehicles For Veterans offers free towing from a location that is best for you, then we recycle or auction the vehicles. The proceeds from the donation go to programs helping disabled veterans and their families.

Donating is easy! All you have to do is call us at 1-855-811-4838 or fill out our easy online donation form. Once this is done, you will receive a call within 24 hours of the next business day to schedule your vehicle pick-up. Once your vehicle is picked-up and towed away you will receive a tax deductible receipt in the mail and you will have faith knowing that your car donation is helping a veteran in need.
