Loyalty Day
Loyalty Day, on May 1, celebrates loyalty to the U.S. and honors the values of American freedom. Since 1958, every president of the U.S. has recognized Loyalty Day with an official proclamation. As a result, Americans are encouraged to celebrate American loyalty with parades and ceremonies.
Originally, Loyalty Day was instituted as opposition to the communist celebration of Labor Day on May 1. At that time, it was called Americanization Day. In present times, Loyalty Day celebrates the sacrifice of America’s founding patriots and their values. May 1 is perfect for celebrating freedom while also understanding the importance of maintaining liberty’s legacy in the U.S.
Silver Star Service Banner Day
May 1 is also an important day to honor the wounded, ill and dying military members for Silver Star Service Banner Day. The military honors these heroes and their families with the Silver Star Service Banner and Flag.
Back in 1917, the Women’s Committee of the Council of National Defenses suggested the Silver Star Service Banner. In 2010, the House of Representatives made May 1 the official Silver Star Service Banner Day.
On Silver Star Service Banner Day, you too can take action to honor Silver Star families, just like the military. A great way to start is to raise awareness in your community. That could be as simple as telling the people you know about it, or you could go big and start a fundraising community event to benefit Silver Star families. Whatever you do, make sure you actively show support to your local Silver Star families with anything from a care package to a nice family meal.
