American Heroes Concert In Astoria, Oregon

It’s easy to forget that Independence Day isn’t about the fireworks or the friends and family BBQ. It is important to not lose sight of the real reason behind Independence Day: to celebrate our heroes and freedom. This Independence Day eve take your family to a free concert to honor our American Heroes.  This fantastic evening will take place at the Liberty Theater (1203 Commercial, Astoria, Ore.).

Details

This is one event you won’t want to miss! The North Coast Symphonic Band directed by Dave Becker will be putting on a free concert of patriotic music on July 3 at the Liberty Theater. The night will start off with the doors opening at 6:45 p.m., the North Jazz Ensemble putting on a pre-show at 7 p.m. and the North Coast Symphonic Band will start at 7:30 p.m. The band will have the help of two guest vocalists from Portland, Andy and Rachel Becker singing familiar songs like “God Bless the USA,” and “You Raise Me Up.”

Clastsop Post Number 12 of the American Legion will present the flags of all the service branches, including the Merchant Marine, in a tribute to the veterans and their families.

While the band performs the “Trumpets and Bridges” Sara Meyer of Sara’s Old Photos will give a special visual tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Astoria/Megler Bridge. This intriguing presentation features vintage photos of Astoria and the building of the bridge.

There will also be a special performance by Johnny Barker who will have a featured solo during the song “Field Ayres.” Johnny is a part of the North Coast Symphonic Band and he recently discovered that he is a distant relative of Thomas Cheney. Cheney was a 16 year-old drummer boy from the Revolutionary War.
