Get Ready For Tax Day On April 18

Get Ready For Tax Day On April 18

Every so often, April 15 lands on a weekend and the IRS gives us a few extra days to get our taxes done. With the 15th being on a Friday this year, the deadline for your 2015 taxes has been pushed to Monday, April 18. If you haven't done your taxes yet, this weekend is your last chance before the deadline!

If you made a vehicle donation in 2015, you're eligible to receive a tax deduction for your charitable donation. You may have already filed your taxes this year, but if you haven't, don't forget to include your receipt from your car donation.

5 Ways To Make Tax Season Go More Smoothly

Most people dread doing their taxes and can't wait for tax season to end. Being stressed about your taxes can lead to procrastination, mistakes and overlooking deductions. These five tips can help reduce your stress:

  • File your taxes early. It's easy to put off things you don't want to do, but there are a lot of benefits to doing your taxes as early as possible. First of all, you can get your taxes out of the way so you don't have them hanging over your head until April. Second, you're far less likely to make mistakes when you're not pressed for time. And finally, you'll get to enjoy your tax refund right away if you file early in the year.
  • Keep all your records in the same place. W2s, 1098Ts, interest statements and other documents all come in at different times. Save all your important documents in the same folder as you receive them so you have everything at hand when it's time to file.
  • Know your health insurance information. If you started a health insurance plan in the middle of the year or weren't insured at all in the past year, be prepared to pay a fine for each month that you weren't insured. Anyone with health insurance should receive a form from their health insurance provider with a record of when they had coverage in the past year.
  • Double check all personal information on your tax return. It's easy to enter your name, social security number, address and other information incorrectly. These errors may seem simple, but they can lead to delays in your taxes being accepted.
  • Be aware of all the credits and deductions you may be entitled to. If you pay a mortgage, student loan interest, made a donation to charity or are self-employed and pay for your own health insurance, you can claim a tax deduction. Depending on your situation, there are also tax credits you may be able to claim. Common tax credits include the earned income tax credit, American Opportunity Credit, and the child care and dependent tax credit.

Donate Your Car To Get A 2016 Tax Deduction

Donating a car now won't give you a deduction on your 2015 taxes, but you can plan ahead for next year. When you donate a car to Vehicles For Veterans this year, you'll receive a tax deductible receipt that you can use for your 2016 taxes.

Making a car donation to Vehicles For Veterans is one of the easiest ways you can get a deduction for your 2016 taxes. If you're ready to make a donation, please call us at 1-855-811-4838 or fill out an online car donation form. We handle all the details and you'll feel great knowing your donation helps disabled veterans have a better life. You can make next year's tax season go a little more smoothly and help veterans just by donating a car this year!
