Honor Veterans During National Bike Month

Honor Veterans During National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month—a perfect time to start biking and maybe even give up driving for biking. Biking versus driving can reduce stress, save the environment and sometimes get you around faster than driving.

Giving up driving for biking can also benefit veterans. If you are ready to make the switch, you can donate your unwanted vehicle to Vehicles For Veterans. All you need to do is fill out an online donation form or call 1-855-811-4838 and we’ll do the rest! Plus we provide you with a great tax deduction that can help pay for your bike!

You can donate your car to benefit disabled and other veterans organizations and switch to biking anywhere in the U.S., but here are some of the best places to bike and honor veterans:

San Francisco

San Francisco is a famous hub of alternative transportation in the U.S. In 2017, San Francisco is enacting a project to add raised and protected bike lanes, and to have 4,500 bikes in the bike share system. The city is practically made for bikers, as abundant bike racks are all throughout. Plus, the city's laws favor bikers, so it is a safe place to bike as well.

While you are taking your bike journey in San Francisco, you can venture into the Presidio. The Presidio is a former military fort and current park. It’s a beautiful place to bike, and it features the World War II West Coast Memorial. This beautiful memorial is a great place to stop and take a break. You can honor veterans with your visit, and enjoy the high ground view looking over the San Francisco harbor.

Chicago

While driving in Chicago can be a hassle, biking in Chicago can be a wonderful experience. Chicago has 100 miles of protected bike lanes, and is often faster than driving downtown. Plus, Chicago is full of great views from diverse architecture to the beautiful riverfront. You can best take in all Chicago has to offer on your bike.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza in Chicago is one of the largest veterans’ memorials across the U.S. You can honor veterans as part of your new commute during National Bike Month.

Austin

Austin, Texas has safe passage for professional biking on their commutes through the heart of the city. On top of that, Austin has a beautiful boardwalk along the Colorado River. Whether you are biking as a hobby to see the sights or as a practical means for transportation, Austin is a nice place to start.

Austin is also a great place to honor veterans. If you are riding near the state capitol building, you can take a break to explore the grounds. The capitol grounds feature a veterans’ memorial for the Vietnam War, Korean War, World War I, Pearl Harbor, World War II, Spanish-American War and the Alamo.
